Refresher Workshop (Advanced Topics) - Income Tax Preparation
Requirements:
Volunteers should set up/complete the Advanced Scenarios from 6744, test booklet in Practice Lab for the following returns: Morrison, Matthews & Torres.
Complete all Income, Expenses, Forms & Schedules capable of. Any help needed will be provided on the problematic Advanced topic areas:
1095-A Marketplace Reconciliation, Uber/Lyft drivers & business returns. Assets sales. We will revisit the scope of VITA for Schedule A limitation of non-cash donations, Business expenses limitation of $25,000, No net loss allowed for business.
This class is a good refresher for all new volunteers who have completed the Basic level and willing to advance to the Advanced Level!

Volunteers wishing to certify at the Advanced level may attend a 3-hour workshop after passing the Basic Level certification or use the IRS online training. Please feel free to contact vita@uwcj.org for guidance & additional resources if self-study is preferred.
Each year United Way of Central Jersey helps complete hundreds of free tax returns for people in need through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, resulting in hundreds of dollars kept in our communities. The Middlesex County, NJ VITA Coalition is requiting additional volunteers in various capacities to help with this effort. Volunteers must complete certification timely and be ready to start by February 1 2020 through April 15, 2020.
Volunteers will work at one or more of our community host sites in New Brunswick, Jamesburg North Brunswick, Highland Park, Perth Amboy, Piscataway, Sayreville, Carteret, South Amboy or Milltown to provide this valuable service.
INCOME TAX PREPARER: Prepare Federal & State tax returns for electronic e-file
Skills – Data entry, detail oriented, great interpersonal skills, dependable, flexible
Certifications required:
1. Ethics test (online & open book)
2. Intake/Interview module (online & open book)
3. Basic or Advanced level Certification (online & open book)
