In-Person (Weekday) Sessions - January 8 & 11 2024.

Attend the 2-day tax workshop session and receive hands-on training for the 2024 filing season income tax preparation. 

Attendees will leave with the confidence needed to complete the required IRS certification (Basic and/or Advanced.) 

Prerequisite- Registrants need to do the following prior to January 8th:

Complete both online trainings using the IRS links below, and also complete the Intake Form with your personal information (your eyes only).

Memorization is not needed, and no tests are to be taken before the workshop meets.

The Nuts & Bolts of VITA Volunteering - 2024 Filing Season

 

When: Monday January 8 and Thursday January 11, 2024

Time: 9:00am - 1:00pm

Place: 32 Ford Avenue, Milltown, NJ 08850 

Take the elevator to the 2nd floor computer lab. 

Seats are limited to only 12 persons (coffee & bagels provided).

Each year United Way of Central Jersey helps complete hundreds of free tax returns for people in need through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, resulting in hundreds of dollars kept in our communities. The Middlesex County, NJ VITA Coalition is recruiting additional volunteers in various capacities to help with this effort. Volunteers must complete all certifications and be ready to start by February 1, 2024 through April 30, 2024.

Volunteers will work at one or more of our community host sites in New Brunswick, Jamesburg, North Brunswick, Highland Park, Perth Amboy, Piscataway, Sayreville, Carteret, South Amboy or Milltown to provide this valuable service.

Volunteers will be engaged as:

  • Income tax preparers and/or
  • Income tax preparer assistants
Tax preparer assistants provide support for Preparers with anyone/more of the following duties:  Review Intake forms for completion and contact clients to provide any missing information; interview clients to gather relevant information; spreadsheet updating; scanning and online uploads; appointment scheduling; translation; assemble completed returns for client giveback.

Needs – Committed individuals, dependable and flexible.

Certifications to be completed after workshop training:

1. Ethics test (open book test)

2. Intake/Interview module (open book test)

3. Basic or Advanced level Certification (open book test)
