Attend a 1-Day tax workshop and receive hands-on training for the 2023 filing season income tax preparation.
Attendees will leave with the confidence needed to complete the required IRS certification (Basic or Advanced.)
Prerequisite: Registrants need to complete the two following online trainings before the workshop meets on January 7th.

The Nuts & Bolts of VITA Volunteering - 2023 Filing Season
(new volunteers preferable)
When: Saturday January 7, 2023
Time: 9am - 4:00pm
Place: 32 Ford Avenue, Milltown, NJ 08816 (take the elevator to the 2nd floor and follow the signs to the classroom)
Seats are limited to 12 persons. (coffee & bagels provided) Attendees should bring a light lunch.

Each year United Way of Central Jersey helps complete hundreds of free tax returns for people in need through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, resulting in hundreds of dollars kept in our communities. The Middlesex County, NJ VITA Coalition is recruiting additional volunteers in various capacities to help with this effort. Volunteers must complete certification timely and be ready to start by February 1 2023 through April 30, 2023.
Volunteers will work at one or more of our community host sites in New Brunswick, Jamesburg North Brunswick, Highland Park, Perth Amboy, Piscataway, Sayreville, Carteret, South Amboy or Milltown to provide this valuable service.
Volunteers will be engaged as:
- Income tax preparers and/or
- Income tax preparer assistants
Assistants provide support by conducting Interviews, reviewing Intakes, following up with clients for missing information, spreadsheet updating, scanning and online uploads, appointment scheduling, translation.
Skills – Detail oriented, great interpersonal skills, dependable, flexible.
Certifications required:
1. Ethics test (open book test)
2. Intake/Interview module (open book test)
3. Basic or Advanced level Certification (open book test)
