United Way of Central Jersey teams up with the IRS and community partners each year to provide free tax services through the United Way Income Tax Assistance Program. IRS Certified Volunteer Preparers will prepare returns for free at several locations in Middlesex County.
United Way of Central Jersey saved residents more than half of a million dollars in tax preparation costs through free, qualified tax preparation for the last filing season. According to the IRS, United Way and its partners are leading providers of volunteer income tax assistance in New Jersey.
"This service is aimed at low and moderate income taxpayers," said Gloria Aftanski, President of United Way of Central Jersey. "For the 2015 filing season, over $2,200,000 was returned to residents of the community in the form of tax credits and refunds."
The IRS has selected United Way to direct a coalition of community partners in order to increase the reach of the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program.

Avoid using a paid tax preparer and save up to $300. If you made less than $63,000 in 2015, you can get your taxes done for free by IRS-certified volunteers at locations throughout the community. The free tax sites also help eligible taxpayers claim important tax credits and refunds. Over $2,200,000 in 2015! Some of the credits include:
