Each year, New Jersey residents lose money due to high commercial preparation fees because they simply do not know where to turn for reliable and affordable help.
United Way of Central Jersey teams up with the IRS and community partners each year to provide free tax preparation from IRS-certified volunteers through the United Way Income Tax Assistance Program.
United Way of Central Jersey saved residents more than half of a million dollars in tax preparation costs last season through free, qualified tax preparation service. According to the IRS, United Way and its partners are leading providers of volunteer income tax assistance in New Jersey.
"This service is aimed at low and moderate income taxpayers," said Gloria Aftanski, President of United Way of Central Jersey. "For the filing season just ended, over $1,847,000 was returned to residents of the community in the form of tax credits and refunds."
The IRS has selected United Way to direct a coalition of community partners in order to increase the reach of the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program.
