Who We Are

About Comfort Zone Camp

Comfort Zone Camp is a nonprofit 501(c)3 bereavement organization that transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, primary caregiver, or significant person. Our programs are free of charge and include trust-building activities and age-based support groups that break the emotional isolation grief often brings. Comfort Zone’s programs are offered to children ages 7-17, and their families for the family programs, plus we offer young adult programs for 18-25-year-olds.

In light of the increased need created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Comfort Zone Camp found new ways to help grieving children. Through the new Comfort Zone At Home program, campers were able to connect virtually and still have a powerful camp experience from the comfort of their home. We also created a Family Camp programs so whole families can heal and grow together.

Held year-round across the country, our primary locations are California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Virginia (HQ). We also partner with organizations to serve their local or specific communities through our Partnership and Community by Design Programs.

FREE GRIEF SUPPORT
All Comfort Zone Camp services are free of charge due to generous donations
from individuals, corporations, civic organizations, and foundation grants.

What We Do

IN-PERSON CAMP PROGRAMS

Traditional 3-day Overnight Camp Program

Our traditional program offers kids ages 7-17 a safe and fun environment at a rustic camp facility – campers connect with their peers and learn coping skills through age-appropriate activities and discussions. Campers are matched one-on-one with a Big Buddy adult mentor who provides encouragement and support throughout the weekend. Youth meet in age-based support groups facilitated by a mental health professional, called Healing Circles, where they can share and reflect on their grief experience. By the end of the weekend, campers leave the “bubble” with a community, a sense of connection, and coping skills for their grief journey.

Family Camp Program

Similar to our traditional overnight camp program, our family camp program is for campers ages 7-17 and also includes a parent/guardian program. At this program parents/guardians also spend the weekend at the camp facility with their campers. Campers and parent/guardians are separated throughout the weekend and come together at the end for a camp-wide memorial service. Campers have the opportunity to connect with their peers and learn coping skills through age-appropriate activities and discussions and parent/guardians also attend their own Healing Circles to learn and connect with fellow parent/guardians.
