Who We Are
CJLS attorneys and paralegals provide help to low-income tenants who are unfairly evicted or living in substandard housing. They represent victims of domestic violence who seek protection from the court and single parents filing for custody and child support. These are just some examples of the important legal work that we do. CJLS ensures fair treatment and equal access to justice for families who could not otherwise afford legal help.
What We Do
Central Jersey Legal Services (CJLS) is a nonprofit law firm providing free legal assistance to low-income individuals and families in civil court. CJLS’ Middlesex Division provides professional legal services to more than 1,500 low-income County residents every year. Our clients have household incomes less than 175% of the poverty level, or $26,748/year for a parent and child. Our clients have barely enough to keep food on the table and a roof overhead. When faced with a legal problem with potentially life-changing consequences, they do not have the option to hire a private attorney.
