Community House at St. Thomas is a unique service in Middlesex County that provides affordable shared housing that accommodates the requirements of eight persons with disabilities. The intention of Community House is to provide a safe, secure and least restrictive living environment for its residents, and to provide the support necessary that enables them to increase the quality of their lives and become contributing members of the mainstream population.
What We Do
The mission of Community House at St. Thomas, Corp. is to provide affordable, stable housing for adults of very low income who are living with significant physical disabilities and to provide social services that compliment, support and foster the resident?s independence and quality of life. Community House at St. Thomas is a nondenominational class B boarding home Licensed by the Department of Community Affairs. We are committed to provide affordable, stable housing for adults with physical disabilities and to provide social services that compliment, support and foster the resident?s independence and quality of life. Community House opened its doors 12 years ago as the result of a grass roots collaboration which brought together Catholic Charities as the sponsoring agency; the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, which provided the construction funding; the Middlesex County Department of Human Services; the United Way of Central New Jersey; The New Jersey Office on Disability Services, and numerous volunteers. The home can accommodate 8 mentally competent, self directed adults who would otherwise be homeless or housed in costly long term care facilities. .. Community House is barrier-free fully accessible and is part of beautiful suburban community. The residents of Community House are a family. .
