Who We Are
All of our programs are meant to help and serve inner-city persons and families. We offer 5 programs throughout the year. During the school year we offer after-school tutoring to local elementary and middle school students from 3:30-5:30 every afternoon, as well as evening prevention programs which provide a place for kids to play and have fun off the street. For adults, we offer adult ESL conversation classes on a weekday evening once a week. We also offer year-round mentoring where a mentor is paired with a child for a minimum commitment of 1 year. Finally, we have a summer camp that runs for 8 weeks throughout the summer.
What We Do
YES works to help our community members to become healthy productive citizens. Though our main focus is on children and youth, we have programs for adults as well. Barry Smith and Jeff Hayes founded YES in 2003. Their organization quickly became a huge success, and their involvement in the community was well recognized and applauded. Unfortunately, in 2007, Jeff Hayes, who was married to Barry's daughter as well as Barry's co-founder, passed away suddenly (he was not even 30 years old). Barry took over the helm of the organization in 2008 to ensure that it did not wither away. In the past year, two new staff members have joined the team, Ruth Loeffler (After School Program Director and Volunteer Coordinator) and Nora Devlin (Director of Development).
